  • Articles: How do tummy time and early movements influence baby's development and organize the brain for learning?  What is craniosacral therapy?

  • Craniosacral therapy and Developmental movement therapy can provide your baby with a well child check-in and offer support for developmental challenges.

Craniosacral Therapy gently supports children’s brain growth and alignment of the head and spine. The normal, intense pressures of pregnancy and birth, as well as the falls of toddlerhood, can create restrictions around the brain in the bones, tissues, cranial nerves and fluids that carry oxygen and nutrients.

The light touch of craniosacral therapy can resolve problems of:

    • nursing: milk supply, suck, swallow, poor latch, one-side nursing
    • colic, inconsolable crying, screaming
    • difficulty sleeping or falling asleep
    • painful gas & other digestive problems
    • excessive spitting up, reflux
    • misshapen head, eyes, ears
    • restricted neck movement & tilted head
    • very high need disposition
    • very passive
    • recovery from birth trauma
    • help adoptive babies resolve issues from poor prenatal conditions, birth trauma and neglect

Craniosacral therapy may be combined with developmental movement therapy to fully address these problems.

Developmental Movement Therapy supports natural infant developmental movements that activate essential neural hook-ups to structure and organize the brain.  These movements activate crucial early learning and power up dynamic brain networks for future learning.

Research shows that babies who are mobile and crawl have better cognitive capacity. Crawling depends on baby having enough tummy time, which can be difficult for some babies. Developmental movement fosters ABC's of pre-academic skills:

    • Attention
    • Balance
    • Coordination

Developmental movement therapy can help you get your child off to the best start.  Parents can offer your baby play that feeds the brain and nourishes the whole child:

    • support for bonding and individuation
    • comfort and support in tummy time
    • engage the first cognition
    • support emotional regulation
    • develop coordination and core strength
    • form postural integrity
    • provide the first opportunities for mastery learning
    • movements for well organized and balanced brain growth
      • tummy time
      • rolling
      • reaching for toys and people
      • pushing up
      • sitting up and down on his/her own
      • belly crawling
      • crawling
    • simple activities that  support  the developing brain & body
      • touch and massage that foster support normal development
      • assist babies with developmental delays
      • help adoptive babies to bond

    Comments from moms:

Three weeks ago Shelby started making progress by leaps and bounds, when she sat up for the first time from lying down.  A few days later she was army crawling and just last week, a few days before she turned one, she started crawling on all fours. She is a brand new little girl. She has so much self-confidence now and is so proud of herself.  Thanks for all your help.  During the past few months we have been working with her a lot on the things that you showed us.

                -Jolie Joy, mother of twins
