At Spinning Babies®, we believe every birth deserves a supportive approach that honors the body’s wisdom and natural physiology. With nearly one in three births today resulting in a cesarean, we’re excited to share powerful new research from Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Florida, that shows how the Spinning Babies® approach can make a difference. Open_Botton_Anterior_Pelvic_Tilt Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s cesarean rate dropped from 27% to 13% after their labor and delivery nurses  attended a Spinning Babies® Foundational Workshop and incorporated this gentle, body-centered approach to birth.  Dr Bridget Funk, Ph.D., CNE, C-ONQS, RN, in her research published in the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing,  found evidence for better outcomes for mothers and babies.   Therefore, Spinning Babies® was chosen to provide education and to incorporate various position changes into the laboring process to ensure the baby is properly aligned for a successful vaginal delivery and decreasing the cesarean rate,” concluded Dr. Funk. Women and babies benefit in multiple ways having a vaginal birth vs a c-section. Vaginal birth enables easier breastfeeding and confers immune benefits for baby.  Women recover more easily from vaginal birth. In contrast, a C-section is major abdominal surgery, with prolonged healing after birth while a mother is feeding and caring for a newborn.
